Gugafit launches Gugamums sessions in Guildford!

Following on from 2013’s very successful holiday camps in Guildford, January 2014 saw Gugafit launch the next project in its mission to help families ‘Get Up, Get Active’. Gugamums is a new activity class for women and secondary school aged girls that aims to remind women that taking part in exercise should be fun!

The Guildford classes launched at the QEP Community Hall at the beginning of January now has over 20 women joining us to ‘Get Up, Get Active’ every Tuesday evening at 8pm.

Skipping, boxing (always very popular) and even a few dreaded press ups are combined with music and games (that you probably haven’t played since you were at school) to ensure the session delivers real physical results in an environment where support and laughter are abundant.

With the decrease in participation in sports amongst teenage girls Gugafit were keen to create an environment where mums and daughters could exercise together and rediscover a healthy relationship with activity.

We have a number of mums and daughters coming to our classes together now and the feedback has been fantastic!  Just at an age when teenagers are often pulling away from their families in order to do their own things, it is nice to provide an activity that bridges the generation gap and gives younger girls the opportunity to see that healthy women come in all shapes and sizes and that being sporty doesn’t have to be all about competition and rules.

We don’t preach about weight loss at our sessions, even if that is the focus for many of our Gugamums, we encourage focusing on the other very important benefits of being active and eating healthily. We do not advocate the use of the scales and instead encourage women to think about the progress they make each week in terms of the exercises we do and the way they feel.  We want fit and healthy Gugamums and that cannot be measured by the scales alone.

The next step on the Gugamums journey will begin on 1st March when we begin offering a number of classes for both adults and children on Saturday mornings at Stoughton Infant School, Guildford. One of the aims of these classes will be to help mums have a break from the weekend taxi routine so many parents find themselves in by giving them the opportunity to take part in a class while Gugafit entertain their children in one of our popular childrens classes.

More details of these new classes can be found at or on our Facebook page at
